Travel to Mazatlan

The economy of Mazatlan has suffered greatly with the dip in tourism dollars during the last few years.  Cruise ships stopped coming to Mazatlan two years ago and many some airlines including United are suspending their flights to Mazatlan.  Some airlines reduced the number of flights per week or months of the year. The city of Mazatlan and the state of Sinaloa have worked hard to attract new types of events and additional transportation for potential tourists.

Recently Cal Jet, home based in California, announced it will be landing in Mazatlan starting in December. The municipality of Mazatlán will put up $100,000US and the state of Sinaloa will put up 12 million pesos ($925,000US). The airline will be able to tap into this reserve if passenger levels fall below 75%.

Flights will depart from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston and San Antonio with direct international flights into Mazatlán.  Round trip flights from Houston and San Antonio are currently offered at $399.  The round trip will take about 2 hours.

This is good news for Mazatlan and Texans wanting to visit Mazatlan.  Currently, American Airlines is the only airline with direct flights to Mazatlan from Texas.  American has daily direct flights to Mazatlan from DFW.  Tickets currently cost $650 to $850 for round trip.
